What will you learn on the course?
Hosted by professional signwriter and industry expert Joby Carter, you’ll learn about the diverse range of decorative skills used in the restoration of vintage vehicles and other heritage items. Joby is a renowned expert in this field having learned from master craftsmen himself and having transformed vintage rides and attractions for Carters Steam Fair across four decades. Having owned and restored numerous showmans living wagons, trucks, trailers and vintage fairground rides; these skills have been essential to Joby’s work and he feels it is important to pass them on.
Who is this course for?
This course is ideal for someone that may want to learn to coach line a vehicle, living wagon or steam engine and add scrolls and flourishes which can be found on living wagons or as an extra addition to embellish some signwriting to make a sign more decorative.
When and where is the course?
Saturday 17 June 2023, 9am – 5pm in the workshop at the Carters Steam Fair yard at White Waltham in Maidenhead which is a live working yard – you’ll be able to see the current signwriting and fairground art projects that are being worked on by Joby and the team. Throughout the day you’ll have access to lots of paint and materials that you’ll need, and lunch will be provided. We encourage you to forget about modern computers, roll up your sleeves and get painty.
