Mr & Mrs Todd
John & Shelley both joined the fair as teenagers, operating attractions for John and Anna Carter. Shelley was a school friend of John & Anna’s daughter Amber. John was from South London and joined the fair when it came to his home town one summer.
John and Shelley went on to fall in love – not just with each other, but with the fair too – and before long they were operating attractions of their own and had run away with the fair. Shelley and John have spent the last 32 years travelling with us at Carters Steam Fair. They started off in a caravan, before eventually moving into their beloved Proctor wagon (pictured). During their time with us, John and Shelley have got married and had three lovely daughters; two of whom are now grown up!
Not only have they devoted all those years to the fair, they have also spent many long hours lovingly restoring the attractions, to the high standards everybody expects of Carters.
Sadly 2017 was their last season with us and we are saying goodbye to them. We wish them health, happiness and success in their new ventures. They will be missed by us all, but we will definitely still be keeping in touch and meeting up with them. Who knows, we may even see them once or twice at the fair, we don’t think they will be able to keep away!
So a big thank you for everything you have done throughout your time with us, and good luck to you all in the future.
your Carters Steam Fair Family.
